Introduction

Welcome to Language Dashboard ("we," "us," or "our"), operated by Bug Media LLC. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our mobile application (the "App").

Language Dashboard is a language learning app that presents foreign language sentences side by side with English translations, with audio playback support for nine languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Spanish.

Information We Collect

Automatically Collected Information

• Anonymous Device Identifier: We use Firebase Anonymous Authentication to create a random identifier for your device. This is not linked to your name, email, or any personal information.
• Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used (e.g., which languages and features are popular). This data is anonymized and aggregated. We do not use this data for advertising.
• Crash Reports: We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous diagnostic information if the App crashes, helping us fix bugs and improve stability. This does not include any personal information.
• Notification Preferences: If you opt in to push notifications, we store your notification preferences locally on your device and subscribe your device to relevant content topics through Firebase Cloud Messaging.

Locally Stored Information

• Language Preferences: Your selected language and display settings are stored on your device.
• Downloaded Content: Sentences you download for offline use are stored locally on your device.
• App Preferences: Onboarding state, notification settings, and Snippet of the Day history are stored on your device using SharedPreferences.

Information We Do NOT Collect

• Names or email addresses
• Phone numbers
• Location data
• Photos, contacts, or data from other apps
• Payment information (handled entirely by Apple or Google)
• Browsing history or activity outside the App

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Deliver language learning content to the App
• Send push notifications about new content (if you opt in)
• Understand which features and languages are most popular
• Diagnose and fix bugs and crashes
• Improve the overall App experience

Data Storage

• On Your Device: Your language preferences, downloaded sentences, notification settings, and app state are stored locally. If you delete the App, this data will be lost.
• On Our Servers: Language learning content (sentences, translations, and audio files) is hosted on Firebase (Google Cloud). We do not store personal user data on our servers.

Push Notifications

Language Dashboard uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver push notifications about new content, such as Current Events updates for languages you follow. Important details:

• Notifications are entirely opt-in; you choose which languages to receive notifications for
• We use topic-based messaging, meaning your device subscribes to content topics rather than being individually targeted
• You can manage or disable notifications at any time through the App or your device settings
• No personal information is shared with the notification service

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Firebase (Google): For anonymous authentication, content database (Firestore), file storage, analytics, crash reporting, and push notifications
• Apple / Google: For app distribution and purchase processing

These services have their own privacy policies and we encourage you to review them.

Advertising

Language Dashboard does not display advertisements. We do not share any data with advertising networks or use any data for advertising purposes.

Children's Privacy

Language Dashboard is designed for general audiences and is suitable for users ages 13 and up. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since the App uses anonymous authentication and does not require any personal information to use, there is minimal data collection for any user regardless of age.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has somehow provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

International Data Transfers

Our content servers and third-party service providers are located in the United States. If you are accessing the App from outside the United States, please be aware that data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States.

By using the App, you consent to this transfer. We take appropriate measures to ensure your data is protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy, regardless of where it is processed.

Data Retention

• Device Data: Stored until you delete the App.
• Analytics Data: Anonymized analytics data is retained by Firebase in accordance with Google's data retention policies. This data cannot be linked to individual users.

Your Rights

Since we collect minimal data and use anonymous authentication, most traditional data rights (access, correction, portability) have limited applicability. However:

• You can delete all your local data by uninstalling the App
• You can disable push notifications through the App or your device settings
• You can use the App offline with downloaded content to minimize any data transmission
• You can contact us to request deletion of any data associated with your anonymous identifier

California Residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), California residents have the right to know what data is collected, request deletion, and opt out of data sharing. We do not sell personal information. Since we collect only anonymous, non-personal data, these rights have limited applicability, but we will honor any requests to the extent possible.

European Residents

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), EU/EEA residents have rights including access, rectification, erasure, and data portability. Our legal basis for processing anonymous analytics data is legitimate interest in improving our services. Contact us to exercise any of these rights.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect data:

• Encryption in Transit: All communication between your device and our servers uses HTTPS (TLS)
• Secure Backend: We use Firebase with security rules that prevent unauthorized access to content
• No Sensitive Data: We do not collect or store passwords, payment details, or other sensitive personal information

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy regularly.
